Yummy Homemade Breakfast Treat

Most of you know that I don't have the most experience in the kitchen. I never took a huge interest in it before, plus I was super busy at school most days and didn't have time to do much when I came home. I was very blessed to live at home and have my own personal cook! She's a good one!

Now that Mark and I are married, I have been learning tons about cooking and baking and I have started to enjoy it more. This weekend we did a bit of grocery shopping and were a bit disappointed when they (again) didn't have the bagels that Mark likes to eat in the morning for breakfast. I intended on running back to the store to get them later in the week, but it's a bit of a drive to get to there from our house. Rather than make the trek all the way down to the south side of town, I decided to do a bit of research Pinterest style on how to make bagels from scratch. And what do ya know, I found a recipe that included all of the items I already had on hand! That almost never happens:)

The instructions seemed easy enough for me and I decided to take a go at it! The recipe I found is a copycat of the Cinnamon Crunch Bagel from Panera. I've never had it from there, even though it's one of my favorite places to eat, but it sounds delicious. After a little mixing, kneading, rising of the dough, and then baking, the taste test took place. It was a success! I really enjoyed them. Mark came home shortly after I was done and sampled about 4 of them for me. I think he liked them too:)

If you want to try out a great bagel recipe, this is the one for you! I will definitely be making these again. Check out the recipe here! I also pinned a few more on my breakfast board on Pinterest that I would like to try out.

Here are a few pictures of my finished product!

Getting ready for the oven...

They smelled soooo good!

YUM, YUM!
If you have another great bagel recipe that you would like to share, I would LOVE to hear about it! I'm open to lots of new and fun recipe ideas:)

Happy Tuesday!

Well... Garden Seeds!

I couldn't help but thinking of my Papa when trying to come up with a title for this post about our garden. This was a saying that he loved to use. "Well...garden seeds!" Such a sweet, sweet man!

Mark and I planted our garden yesterday after supper. We received quite a bit of rain here last week, so we had to wait for things to dry up a bit before planting. We bought our seeds a while back at a store here called Peavey Mart, kind of like Tractor Supply in the good ol' USA:) We decided to plant green beans and cucumbers in the two longer boxes. In the smaller square boxes we planted beets, dill for pickling (Mark loves the smell of it), and onions. We would like to plant something else that doesn't grow to be very large because we still have a bit of room left, so we'll see what we come up with this weekend.

We had a really fun time planting and can't wait to watch everything begin to grow!

Seeds and Supplies

Every good garden needs a trusty watchdog!

Best lookin' gardener I've ever seen:)

Getting the rows ready.
Bella just has to get in on the action!

She loves the camera!

As things start to grow I'll make sure I snap lots of pictures to share! And I'm sure there will be a few of Bella as well:)

Also, going to plant these tomorrow. Can't believe its almost been a year since we were married!

Have a great weekend!

Howdy from Alberta!

Yay for finally starting this blog!!!!!

I'm super excited about sharing bits and pieces of things going on in our little lives with everyone!

It's currently springtime here in sunny Alberta and I'm loving it! The sun is rising super early in the morning(around 5:30am) and sets quite late in the evening(around 9:30pm). I absolutely love the longer days.  Spring time is definitely beautiful here. It takes things a little longer to green up here than in Texas, and it can still get pretty cool. Overall I'm a fan:) I intended on beginning this blog before winter started so that I could fill all of my Texas family and friends in on how I was surviving. Fortunately for me it was very mild this year! It did get pretty cold at one point, but I was home in Texas during that time. What a shame I missed it:)

Over the past month Mark and I have been spending most of our time working on the backyard. Mark and his brothers put down sod a few weeks ago and it looks so good. We got quite a bit of moisture over the past few weeks so it's really taking off! Mark also built four beautiful cedar planter boxes for our raised garden we will be planting soon. I planted some flowers in pots and have them out on the back deck.
The day after the sod was put down.

The beginning of our little back flowerbed.

Bella digging in the planter boxes:)

Sweet Bella has really enjoyed her new space outside too! Before the sod was put down she enjoyed digging in the fresh topsoil that we spread. We had quite a few laughs at the little trenches she would make in the yard! Now she is enjoying relaxing in the grass:)

Here she is relaxing after a long day of sleeping on the couch...

No doubt about it, she's spoiled!

Once we get everything complete I will share some more pictures for sure!
Hope that everyone has a great week!
